So They Huffed and They Puffed, Part 2

In my opinion there are few sights more breathtaking than a Mississippi Delta sunset with barren trees silhouetted against a vibrant sky....the heavens declaring our Creator's glory.

Our PDS Sixth graders attempted to capture a bit of that beauty using eyedroppers, straws, watercolors, and India ink.
Aren't their artworks lovely?

Spectacular Sixth Grade Ceramics!

The beautiful pottery pieces below were made by our Sixth Graders using a variety of construction techniques. Some made pinch pots, while others combined slab and coil techniques on their truly unique creations.
I think the results are pretty SPECTACULAR! What about you?

Dot to Dot

This week may have been short on days, but it certainly wasn't short on fun in the computer lab! Below, some of our Kindergarteners learn to control the mouse by completing dot to dot pictures. Didn't they do a great job?

Fluttering 4K

This week the 4K students had so much fun making folded paper butterflies! We talked about the primary colors, and I wish you could have heard the oohs and aaahs when they opened their papers!

New Year, New Room, New Projects!

Can you believe summer is over and the new school year is here? AND with it comes some exciting changes for our art classes....beginning with a new location! Yep, that's right! The Art Room is now right across the hall from the library! Miss Ann, Mr. Dan and I have really worked hard getting everything moved and ready. Not only is this room a bit bigger, but it's also very close to the KILN! And THAT'S going to be especially helpful since I have  new pottery projects planned for each grade level. I can hardly wait for our first day of class!

See you soon!

Delta Arts Alliance/ Atmos Children's Art Competition

Thank you,  Delta Arts Alliance and Atmos
for investing in the children of Cleveland!

DAA and Atmos Energy recently sponsored a  Children's Art Competition. Those of you who did not attend Tuesday night's Exhibit Opening  missed a real treat! From the beautifully displayed artwork to the delicious refreshments, the exhibition and reception gave the children a wonderful opportunity to have their artwork celebrated. AND I'm happy to say that a number of our own PDS students were included in the exhibit! In fact, Chloe Spitz won 1st place in her division, while Katie Soliz, Gypsy Griffin, and Rebecca Blackstock were awarded Honorable Mentions. Congratulations, to all our Young Artists!

In case you missed the opening, let me encourage you to visit the DAA gallery in the historic Ellis Theater and enjoy this exhibit before the show closes on July 1! You will be glad you did!

Magnificent Monograms

Who says practicing cutting skills has to be boring? Not our PDS preschoolers! Look at the beautiful monograms they snipped, snipped, snipped!

Our Spring Art Show and Grandparents Day was.....well... GRAND!

Thanks to Mrs. Kinnison, Mrs. Burd, the K3-Gr.1 teachers and students, and  our wonderful PTF,  PDS recently hosted many of our students' grandparents and grandfriends for a special program, breakfast, and Art Exhibit. What a "grand" celebration it was! The food was delicious and the grandchildren adorable! Not only did it give us a chance to honor and thank special loved ones, but it also gave them a chance to enjoy the fruits of their grandchildren's efforts in the PDS Art Room this year. WE LOVE OUR GRANDPARENTS AND GRANDFRIENDS! Below are a few snaps from this special event!
